Gaylon Smith worked for the Davidson County Juvenile Court for 40 years. During that time, he served as the Director of the Juvenile Detention Center and was supervisor of the Intake Division until his death on February 19, 2009. Gaylon was also a member of the TJCSA since its inception and served on various committees, such as the Executive Committee and Program Committee.
As a supervisor, mentor and friend, Gaylon has left us with not only knowledge of the court, but also with the memories of a wonderful role model. Gaylon was dedicated to his job and made a difference in everyone’s lives. It has often been said, “A true friend reaches for your hand and touches your heart;” and Gaylon did just that with his life. The Davidson County Juvenile Court and the Tennessee Juvenile Court Services Association will miss Gaylon as a colleague and as a friend.
