On February 7, 2014, the TJCSA Executive Committee voted to create a scholarship for emeritus members of the association in memory of the late-Charles Campbell of the Davidson County Juvenile Court. The scholarship was aptly named the Charles Campbell Scholarship.
Applicant eligibility requirements:
- Emeritus member of the TJCSA
- Was a member in good-standing with the TJCSA for a minimum of 10 years
- Employed by a juvenile court for 20 years minimum
- Retired from employment with a juvenile court
The scholarship will pay for up to three (3) nights of lodging and the registration fees for the annual Joint Conference on Juvenile Justice in the award year. Emeritus applicants will still be responsible for paying their own TJCSA membership dues each year.
Applications for the scholarship will be submitted each year to the chair of the Scholarship Committee, formerly to have been known as the Charles Traughber Scholarship Committee (pending approval of the membership for a proposed bylaw change to that effect on August 6, 2014). The application deadline will be determined, as needed, each year but for this year the application deadline has been set for June 1, 2014.
The Scholarship Committee will determine the eligibility of applicants and make recommendations to the Executive Committee for awards in a given year. The Executive Committee will make awards contingent upon the TJCSA’s financial status. Applications will remain subject to further review by the Executive Committee, if needed, in their consideration for awards.
